Leading Your Bullmastiff to Obedience

Although bullmastiffs have been touted as mans best friend, canines require conditioning for a good relationship to develop. Have you ever seen a bullmastiff that joins their owner for dinner or just takes charge of the house? Domineering bullmastiffs take charge when they are not trained who is the subordinate in the relationship.

Labrador retrievers, as their name indicates, were bred to retrieve things. However, most people think of them today as retrieving sticks, or other similar objects. In reality, they were originally bred to help fishermen by retrieving fishing nets!

So, what does it take to demonstrate to your puppy or canine that you are the top DOG of the house. Verisimilar to children, bullmastiffs try to get away with what they think their master will overlook. Neglecting to seize control of a dominant puppy can lead to many adulthood traumas, socialization issues and problem. Showing a canine who is the leader early on, ensures that an owner will always have control over their bullmastiff.

Inbreeding causes about 3 out of every 10 dalmations suffer from some sort of hearing loss. The good news is that, like deaf people, they can easily be taught to recognize words in sign language and still make excellent companions.

But, the enforcement of leadership is a touchy issue with bullmastiffs. Too much authority may promote stubborn behavior. Teaching a puppy who the leader is is easier than training an adult bullmastiff. Like old expression states you cant teach an old DOG new tricks, it applies to training an adult bullmastiff. Enforcing leadership with a bullmastiff should be executed by praising a bullmastiff with a reward and praise when he or she is obedient.

The doberman pinscher breed was created in the 1860's by a man named Louis Doberman. Mr. Doberman was a German tax-collector. He needed a dog to protect him from angry people while he worked. To this day, dobermans are excellent guard dogs.

Here are a few ways to demonstrate or exercise your leadership with your bullmastiff:

Many people will swear that they own a golden labrador. The problem is that golden labradors do not exist! There is no purebred dog called a golden lab. The dog is probably either a golden retriever or a labrador retriever.

-- To demonstrate your authority, remove your bullmastiffs food from time to time during training. Use the food to reward your bullmastiff for good behavior.

The Bloodhound doesn't need to smell blood to find someone who is lost. It is said that his name instead means blooded hound, or aristocratic. They actually track people because people leave a trail of skin cells with their own unique odor wherever they go.

-- Exit through doors first to show that youre the top bullmastiff

-- When you have to maneuver around your pet, have it move to show dominance.

The German Shepherd Dog is also known as the Alsatian, or Deutsche Schaferhund. Rin Tin Tin, probably the most famous American German Shepherd, was actually born in France in September of 1918 and then brought to America later.

-- Anytime, your bullmastiff begins to show signs of aggression directed towards you, seek the advice of a licensed veterinarian or a canine behavioral specialist.

The basenji could really be considered more like a cat than a dog. Not only is it the only breed of dog that does not bark, but is also a meticulous cleaner. Unlike other dogs, the basenji actually licks itself clean, just like a cat!
