Basic Bullmastiff Care 101

Although there are certain rules for walking your bullmastiff in various cities, there are not any guideline requirements on caring for your bullmastiff. With a plethora of canine health articles on the market, few report the basics or no brainers that you will learn along the way.

Barbara Bush wrote "Millie's Book", a book about her English Springer Spaniel, Millie. The book was an instant success. It was on the bestseller list for 29 weeks. Millie was the most popular "First Dog" in United States history.

But as a refresher in living and raising a bullmastiff 101 review these tips:

A st. bernard became a mother in 1975. While that wasn't unusual by itself, the unusual thing was that she had twenty-three puppies! She now shares this record with two other dogs, one of which originally set it in 1944.

-- To promote your bullmastiffs health, do not overfeed him or her. It will ensure a lower risk of joint problems and heart conditions.

Pekingese dogs were sacred to the emperors of China for more than 2,000 years. They are one of the oldest breeds of dogs in the world. Commoners in Imperial China were forbidden to own Pekingese dogs.

-- Wait a minimum of two days after your bullmastiff has recovered from an illness before you expose it to other DOGS

The diminutive tibetan spaniel, with his feather-like tail, may look a bit like other spaniels, but the breed is actually not a spaniel at all, but more closely related to some combination of the shih tzu, pug, pekingese and Japanese chin.

-- If your canine consistently acts out of control, enroll him or her in an obedience training class before you take it in the company of others

The largest breed of dog that is recognized by the American Kennel Club is the Irish Wolfhound, which stands thirty to 30 to 35 inches at the top of the shoulders and weighs 105 to 125 pounds.

-- To avoid the unknown (illness, injury and safety), never allow your bullmastiff to loiter, play or roam in an unsecured or restricted area

The basenji could really be considered more like a cat than a dog. Not only is it the only breed of dog that does not bark, but is also a meticulous cleaner. Unlike other dogs, the basenji actually licks itself clean, just like a cat!

-- In the company of your canine and others, try to anticipate their excitement from accidentally slamming into you by slightly bending your knees to prevent hyperextension.

Part of the reason that basset hounds have such a unique look is that the British purposely bred basset hounds to have short legs, so that hunters could keep up with them. Unfortunate this has caused the breed to be prone to leg/joint problems.

-- At the park, you should not be surprised when you call your bullmastiff and other canines respond.

The Podengo, a rare breed of dog, is also known as the Portuguese Warren Hound. It is usually a fawn or yellow color, but can be brown, black or sooty colored without white patches or spots. It resembled a long-bodied chihuahua.

-- During extreme temperatures, protect your canine from developing, hypothermia, heat stroke (overheating) as well as frostbite. Do not take your pet to the park during harsh weather conditions.

Pekingese dogs are quite small. This worked out well for their ancient masters, who were ancient Chinese royalty. These royal masters used to carry the peke dogs along in the sleeves of their royal robes.

-- Never feed other people's canine pets for two reasons: 1) Not all treats agree with all DOGS. The food you give someone elses DOG could affect it's digestion 2) Certain owners have their bullmastiff on a restrictive diet.

Chihuahuas, because of their size, are often treated like babies, but they actually do have something in common with human babies. Chihuahuas are born with a "molera", also known as a soft spot, on their heads, exactly like a human baby. Usually the soft spot closes as the dog matures.

-- In general, it is never a good idea to feed your bullmastiff prior to a ride in the car

One of the weirdest dog births on record involves a Siberian Husky. The mother's name was Pixie and she gave birth to 7 puppies, which isn't unusual. The unusual part was that one of the puppies was born bright green!
